Holidays in Malaysia
Numerous secular and religious holidays, held annually in different regions of Malaysia, create an excellent platform for intercultural communication and interaction between representatives of different ethnic communities in Malaysia. For a tourist, such events are a real window into the exotic and fascinating world of the traditions of the Asian continent.

Thaipusam (end of January) is a Tamil holiday in honor of the god Murugan, held on a special scale in Kuala Lumpur and regions inhabited by Hindus. Thaipusam is accompanied by a kavadi ritual of mass self-torture, which is unlikely to appeal to the faint of heart.
Chinese New Year (January-February) is the main holiday of the year for the many Chinese living in Malaysia. The highlight of the festival is incredibly colorful festivities with noisy parades and fireworks.
Vesak (May) - according to legend, the birth, enlightenment and death of the Buddha fell on the 1st day, which has since become the main holiday of the year for all followers of his teachings around the world.

Maulid or Prophet's Birthday (June 26) - due to the fact that this holiday is purely religious in nature, its main actions take place on the territory of mosques.
Flower Festival (July) - The tropical nature of Malaysia has created ideal conditions for the growth of flowers of a wide variety of shapes and sizes. A celebration dedicated to this living national treasure takes place in the capital for a whole week, culminating in a grandiose flower parade through the central streets of Kuala Lumpur.
Hari Raya Puasa (July-August) - like all Muslims of the world, the Malays solemnly and violently celebrate the end of the month of Ramadan. This family holiday is designed to bring renewal, peace and help build relationships with others.
Malaysia Day (August) is a two-week festival celebrating the creation of the modern state of Malaysia. Thirteen states of the state hold events in Kuala Lumpur that introduce viewers to their traditions, crafts and cuisine. This is one of the best opportunities for a tourist to get to know the country in all its cultural diversity.
Mooncake Festival or Lantern Festival (August/September) - two coincident dates of the holiday allow you to simultaneously celebrate the end of the harvest and remember the historical events associated with the struggle of China against the Mongol yoke. These days, city streets are lit with the lights of thousands of lanterns, and children and adults exchange gifts in the form of sweet Chinese pies.
The Deepavali Festival of Lights (end of October - beginning of November) is a Hindu holiday that celebrates the annual victory of the forces of light over the forces of darkness and evil. This family holiday is celebrated by lighting many oil lamps in the houses, prayers and magnificent street processions.
Christmas (December 25) - although Malaysia is a Muslim country, the Christmas spirit here can be easily felt in large cities, on the territory of hotels, shopping centers and, of course, in the homes of Malay Christians.
