Fossil fuels
Fossil fuels are essential for providing electricity, powering industry and fueling transportation. However, one day we will reach a point when all the world`s fossil fuels have been depleted. How can we conserve these resources? What are some alternatives to fossil fuels? The vast majority of the countries around the world are heavily dependent on fossil fuels to provide electricity, heat, transportation and to power plants manufacturing a wide range of products, from steel to plastics. Nevertheless, non-renewable fuels are finite and natural resource deposits will be exhausted in the future. There is a combination of methods that can be implemented to support the conservation of fuel supplies and traditional sources of energy can be supplemented or replaced by naturally replenished sources such as the sun, wind and water. One of the viable solutions to conserving energy is transitioning to energy-efficient appliances. In other words, utilizing home appliances that are less energy intensive can be effective in reducing the amount of electricity people use in their daily lives. Another method that can contribute to economizing energy usage is buying or using eco-friendly means of transport. Vehicles that run on petrol and gasoline account for a large proportion of energy generated from fossil fuels. For this reason, shifting to hybrid or electric cars might help cut down on energy consumption. The afore-mentioned methods can be instrumental in conserving fossil fuels inasmuch as non-renewable sources are mainly used for generating power. There are several alternative sources of energy that could phase fossil resources out in the future. Wind energy is one of the sustainable energy forms that is versatile and can be produced from small-scale windmills or wind turbines on residential properties to large-scale offshore wind farms in the ocean. Another inexhaustible resource to produce energy is solar power. Photovoltaic panels consist of solar cells that catch sunshine and convert it into electricity. Water is also a valuable source of hydroelectric energy which is generated from the energy of moving water. Since these alternative sources are infinite and cause less damage to the environment, coupled with other forms of energy such as geothermal energy, bioenergy and nuclear energy, they could one day fully replace fossil fuels. In conclusion, buying local food and transitioning to energy-efficient pieces of technology and electric modes of transport can reduce our dependence on fossil fuels. Moreover, renewable sources such as water, wind and sun are viable alternatives to traditional ones. Raising people`s awareness on the depletion of fossil fuels can lay the foundation for popularizing sustainable sources of renewable energy. If high consumption continues, the whole world will soon be on the brink of an energy crisis. Some scientists think the solution to this problem can be found in space—which they say is the ideal place to gather energy from the sun. With no clouds and no nighttime, a space-based solar power station could operate constantly. businesses are incentivized to adopt cleaner energy practices. Download 16.1 Kb.
