Counselors are available to assist students during snack, lunch, and after school.**See the counseling department webpage for more information, including a calendar of scheduled presentations.American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Standards ACADEMICS Future Planning ● Senior Presentations ● Individual Senior Meetings ● College Application Workshops ● Letter of Rec/Personal Statement/Resume Workshop ● 2 Informational Presentations 9th-11th grade ● Planning Your Future Presentation (night event) ● FAFSA Presentation (night event for financial aid) ● Host College Rep Visits ● Provide Scholarship Information ● PSAT/NMSQT ● Registration Presentations ● Registration Meetings with each student ● Planning for Collegiate Athletics Interventions ● Student Study Team Meetings ● Alternate Educational Planning ● 504/IEP Meetings ● Senior Credit Checks ● D/F Grade checks ● Placement in Intervention Classes ● Provide Info on Available Tutoring Parent Action Plan: Grade 9 Summer Before High School ● Visit a college campus together. ● Get the facts about what college costs. ● Show your child how to explore career ideas. He or she can make a list of interests, talents and favorite activities and start matching them with occupations. Fall ● Make sure your child meets with the school counselor. Your child should schedule a meeting to talk about college and career options and to choose the most-appropriate classes. ● Help your child set goals for the school year. ● Make a plan to check in regularly about schoolwork. ● Talk about extracurricular activities. Getting involved in clubs and other groups is a great way for your child to identify interests and feel more engaged in school. Winter ● Start thinking about financial aid. ● Discuss next year’s classes. Spring ● Help your child start a college list. ● See how much you need to save for college. ● Help your child make summer plans.
