Great Pacific Garbage Patch
The existence of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch was predicted in a 1988 publication by the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration . The forecast was based on data collected in Alaska between 1985 and 1988.Measuring the amount of drifting plastic in the North Pacific Ocean has revealed that a lot of in areas subject to certain ocean currents .Data from the Sea of Japan led the researchers to speculate that similar accumulations could be found in other parts of the Pacific Ocean , where prevailing currents contribute to the formation of relatively calm water surfaces . In particular, scientists pointed to the North Pacific Current System. The existence of a garbage patch attracted the attention of the public and the scientific community after the publication of several articles by oceanographer and athlete Charles Moore. While navigating the North Pacific Current system after competing in the Transpac regatta Moore discovered of debris on the ocean surface.

We know little about the problems of the worlds oceans , including plastic that enters the waters and then slowly kills all life. But for residents of coastal zones and island states this is a real problem that needs to be talked about and which needs to be solved with no less responsibility than the problem of landfills and outdated solid waste landfills . Pollution of the World Ocean is the biggest problem of our time . It has been known for several decades that there is real landfill in the Pacific Ocean , which even has a name : the Great Garbage Patch . It Is still not entirely clear what size this contaminated area is : according to some data , it can reach 1,6 million km2. For comparison, this is the area of Mongolia or two Turkeys. This is a whole garbage island , which at the same time is inhabited . Its easy to guess that the marine life here has a sad fate , they literally survive among the garbage . The fact is that garbage becomes a prison for animals.

No matter what a person does , he always leaves behind heaps of garbage . Lets say you can sweep up the trash in your apartment , somewhere on a summer cottage – collect it in a bag . What to do next ? Cities have more or less learned how to collect , remove and dispose of waste. Thus , the Moscow government has created two enterprises for this purpose : “Promotkhody” (for the removal of industrial waste) and “Ekotekhprom” (for the removal of household waste ).
The situation is much worse in dacha villages and small towns . Their resident follow, alas , a vicious principle: throw wast eover the fence or bury it , and as a result , the entire area around becomes monstrously littlered.Spontaneoisly occurring landfills also have an additional burden on the environment.
