Global Citizenship 1. Using the information in the table, explain what becoming a global citizen involves. Write at least 2 – 3 sentences, explaining your point of view. 1. From my perspective, being global citizenship might involve Global citizenship involves acknowledging and accepting our collective duty to solve issues, uphold fairness, preserve the environment, and make positive contributions to the global community. 2. As a global citizen you will be learning different knowledge, skills and values. Explain the terms listed below (you may need to use the internet to help you understand what they mean). Social Justice – Promoting fairness and equality for all individuals in society. Diversity – Embracing and valuing differences in race, ethnicity, gender, religion, and other aspects of identity. Human Rights – Ensuring fundamental rights and freedoms for every person, regardless of their background or circumstances. Identity – Acknowledging and respecting the unique characteristics and experiences that make each person who they are. Empathy – Understanding and sharing the emotions and perspectives of others, fostering compassion and connection. Global citizenship is loosely defined as “recognising the interconnectedness of life, respecting cultural diversity and human rights, advocating global social justice, empathising with suffering people around the world, seeing the world as others see it and feeling a sense of moral responsibility for planet Earth.” In effect, rather than seeing oneself as a citizen of a single country or place, a global citizen sees their identity as transcending borders of politics and geography, operating as a member of humanity and not just a single nationality. 3. What does ‘interconnectedness’ mean? So, Interconnectedness means that everything and everyone is connected and dependent on each other, with actions and well-being of one person or group affecting others. It emphasizes the understanding that we are all part of a larger system and our actions have ripple effects on others. 4. What is the value of becoming a global citizen? The value of becoming a global citizen means developing a broader perspective, empathy, and understanding of diverse cultures and global issues. It can enables some people to actively contribute to creating a more inclusive and sustainable world by recognizing the connections of all people and taking collective responsibility for addressing global challenges. 5. What do you want to learn or achieve from becoming a global citizen? Well , I don't have personal desires or ambitions. However, from a global perspective, becoming a global citizen allows for the potential to greater understanding and cooperation among different cultures and nations.
