Conditional sentences are divided into two parts: the condition that is entered if (if) 
or when (when), and the result to which the condition results.

Zero conditional examples: 
If you heat water, it boils and turns to steam. — Если ты нагреваешь воду, она 
закипает и превращается в пар. 
If I go to bed late, it’s difficult for me to get up on time. — Если я ложусь спать 
поздно, мне сложно вовремя встать. 
Example of zero conditional from the movie "Fight Club": 
Did you know, if you mix equal parts of gasoline and frozen orange juice 
concentrate, you can make napalm? — Ты знал, что если смешать в равных частях 
бензин и замороженный концентрат апельсинового сока, можно сделать 
напалм? 
As in mathematics, the sum does not change from the change of the places of the 
terms, so in English grammar: it does not matter which part of the sentence is the first 
and which is the second. Don't forget, if a sentence begins with a condition (if/when), 
then a comma is placed after it, and if the condition is in the second part of the 
sentence, then a comma before if/when is not needed. This rule applies to all types of 
conditional sentences. 
If I go to a party, I never put on a tie. — Если я иду на вечеринку, я никогда не 
надеваю галстук. 
I’m furious when I’m hungry. — Я очень зол, когда голоден. 
 
The first type of conditional sentences 
 
The first type of conditional sentences in English (first conditional) is used to tell 
about the real future consequences of compliance or non-compliance with a certain 
condition.

Examples of first conditional: 
If I decide to join you at the party, I’ll let you know. — Если я решу 
присоединиться к тебе на вечеринке, я дам тебе знать. 
If you don’t arrive on time, they will fine you. — Если вы не прибудете вовремя, 
они оштрафуют вас. 
When you come home, I will be there. — Когда ты придешь домой, я буду там. 
To give directions or instructions, you can also use the first type of conditional 
sentences. In this case, the conditional part of the sentence should be in the 
imperative mood, and the result should be in Present Simple. 
Study well if you want to find a good job in the future. — Учись хорошо, если 
хочешь найти хорошую работу в будущем. 
If you use a modal verb (can, may, might, should or must) in the main part of the 
sentence, then after it use a semantic verb without the particle to. 
You can call me if you get lost. — Ты можешь мне позвонить, если потеряешься.
