group of students who instead of working together, simply goof off. Careful
planning and a watchful eye can help prevent these problems though.
Student Choice Grouping Allows students to group themselves according
to a shared preference, for an author or genre in reading, for example, or historical
period or country in social studies. This grouping system is good to use when
student success is not dependent on choice, when you want students to take the
lead.
Based on the above explanations, the writer concludes that the entire
selecting group for the students is appropriate enough for certain opportunities.
The teacher should pay high attention in selecting students’ group by looking at
the teaching materials, if the material is very difficult, the teacher should use
teacher choice in selecting group, so that the teacher can control that each group

the students to choose their partner group.
B. Advantages and Disadvantages

each other, (3) necessary books and other materials can be readily available, (4)
administrators can select the most suitable teacher for the group and this teacher
may devote his talents to the able students without having to provide for differing
needs of less able students. Many teachers feel that more appropriate pace for all
students may be established and that students will feel freer to participate. The big
advantage of forming groups at random is that it is seen as fair by all involved.
A teacher can accommodate learner diversity by varying the types of
involvement in groups. In this respect, within different group structures, learners
may be involved independently, cooperatively and competitively. Even with a
group task, some learners go about their work in an isolated way, some work in
coordination with other learners, while others compete and work to be the best or
the fastest. Some examples of the varying types of involvement are having a
