Guidelines for formatting and structuring TMAs

Guidelines for formatting and structuring TMAs
These guidelines reflect current formatting standards of international universities.
Headings, numbering paragraphs, sub-sections, etc.: Headings can be emboldened, underlined, etc., to distinguish them from the body of the text. Please try to use up to three levels of depth for numbering sub-sections, for example numbering such as ‘Sub-section 1.2.3’ is fine but try to avoid ‘Sub-section 1.2.3.4 or 1.2.3.4.5’. Avoid orphaned headings.
Font type and size:

AOU documents uses Arial font (which is the in-house style of OU UK). Size 12 for the body of the text would be fine. Of course, the font size (but not the font type) can be changed if necessary, for example for charts and tables.

Line Spacing:
Double space throughout the document

Margins:

Set margins of 2.54 cm on all sides (top& bottom)

Left margin:

Left and right margins should be 3.1 cm.

Paragraph indentation:

Indent the first line of each paragraph 5-7 spaces.

Leave a blank line between paragraphs and two blank lines between sections of questions.

Pagination:

Please number the entire assignment as a single document, i.e. different sections of the report should not start from page 1 again. Use a header to insert page numbers in the upper right hand corner on every page of the TMA.

Table of content:

If the TMA contains a table of contents; please give page numbers for each title.

Front cover:

Please use the attached standard front- cover sheet for every TMA.
