- WRITING TASK 2
Hello everybody! This is Mr. Baha from Kevin’s Academy (Writing-8.0 and Speaking-9.0). This book has been written in a way that everyone, even dummies, can easily understand. This book is fool-proof and is, far away from a farrago of lies, indeed very helpful for those who are yearning to get 7.5 or 8.0 from writing. If you study and learn our novelty book, you will be able to cast your dyed-in-the-wool imagination about how hard writing is out and get a confidence which is a stepping-stone to get 8 or even 9. Let me give you some idea about writing task 2. Below I have given an example of writing task 2 rubric:
You should spend about 40 minutes on this task. Write about the following topic:
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience. Write at least 250 words. Task 2 involves writing an essay on the given topic. You have to • answer the question(s) clearly and completely; • give reasons for your answer; from your knowledge from your experience • spend about 40 minutes on the task • write at least 250 words (260-265 words) But, before I start to explain everything in detail, please bear with me to give 20 tips that are vital to increase your score from 5 to 9: You should understand the essay question 110% Use complex structure e.g. complex sentences, clauses (which, that etc), complex adjectives, past perfect, present perfect and so on Use If conditionals Add linking words It is not the brilliant ideas that matter but the way you explain them, which increases your score There is no specific fixed body structure for IELTS essays (but please do not write more than 5 paragraphs, which will plague your score) Punctuation- learn where to put comma, full stop and others Read a lot (do not learn essays by heart). Use longer sentences (about 20-30 words) Use subordinate clauses Use academic words (don’t use informal words) Avoid contractions like doesn’t, can’t or they’ll Avoid “get” phrases where possible Avoid a personal tone except when giving personal opinions or talking of personal experiences Avoid phrasal verbs where possible Avoid over-generalisation by avoiding absolute statements and introducing probability/possibility Avoid “in this essay I will discuss both views and give conclusion at the end” or “this essay will discuss both sides and give opinion”. Don’t use BACKGROUND sentences. Use only one type of accent in your writing e.g. if you use British accent your essay and speech will be marked based on this accent so it is better not to mix up the accents Learn based on authentic sources (Ieltsliz or tahasoni’s sites) so don’t believe and learn based on every essay you see because some essay writer say their essay can easily hit 8 but in fact, they barely score 6.5 or 7.0 if you are lucky enough. There are lots of other ways to improve your writing and speaking. And please don’t be hesitate to come and see me at Kevin’s Academy! NOTE: I used simple spoken English in writing my book so if there is any mistake; don’t pay attention (I only use formal language and academic words in my essays). Thanks for co-operation!
