Highland Acres Elementary School

Mission and Vision Statement

The mission of Highland Acres is to be the best we can be

 through continued learning and responsible citizenship.

Highland Acres is an extended community of students, families, and staff actively engaged in

creating a safe, rich, and enjoyable learning environment for everyone.

Students

 will meet the expectations for their learning and behavior in an environment,

which is both emotionally and physically safe.

Families

 are supportive partners in their child’s education.

Staff

 members will provide opportunities for all students to reach their maximum potential.

All

 will thrive in personal and academic growth with continued learning and

responsible citizenship.

What Makes Highland Acres Unique?

• Small population - 139 students,  104 family units

• Homogenous demographics - 4 Native American,  4 Asian, 

1 African/American,  1 Hispanic,  

3 other classification, 126 Caucasian

• Above average socioeconomic status ranging from 2%-

14% receiving free or reduced hot lunch   2008-2009 -

10.8%


• High Attendance rate  K-6- 97.2%

• Parent-Teacher Conference attendance rate averages 100%

• 2004 Nationally Recognized Blue Ribbon School


Maximize Learning for ALL Students

Initiatives 

1.

Teachers administered Scott Foresman Baseline and Selection/Unit



assessments to all students K-6 and used as formative assessments

2.

All teachers and specialists participated in Highland Acres  



Professional Learning Community meetings

3.

Students in grades K-1and 3-6 set learning goals based on DIBELS 



or MAP scores

4.

Teachers and specialists supported weekly study club time for 



students to work on individual learning goals

5.

Grade 4 piloted FASTT Math  (Camp Edventure will use also)



6.

Used Orton Gillingham as a reading intervention where appropriate

7.

Began implementation of Key Math 3 as a math intervention



8.

Individual intervention plans were developed as needed for students
