MissionU – creating a curriculum with Spotify and Uber

Magazine on the front page of 
MissionU
, a company based in San Francisco that 
provides a one-year educational program with 80% online learning and a 
career-focused curriculum. At MissionU, they develop the content of their 
education in close collaboration with major companies such as Uber and 
Spotify, and the curriculum is very job-focused, and is especially taking the 
future of work into consideration. All learning is project-based, and the students 
develop fundamental hard- and soft skills during the program. At the end of the 
year they receive six weeks of training for launching their career. MissionU is 
thus an example of an educational alternative that pushes for a radical change 
in the content of education as well. For now, MissionU only offers a major in 
data analytics and business intelligence but plans to add more.

educational technologies that can be used to individualize learning and provide the 
students with abilities to develop critical thinking and other skills for the future. 
The implementation of new ways of learning as well as EdTech tools has been 
developed from within the established institutions in the US. In the case of public 
universities, it can happen both through top-down or bottom-up, The huge demand 
that these institutions experience might drive a change in content, as they are able 
to build new educational models with content that they deem fit for the new 
demands. Furthermore, many of the new alternatives try to create new ways of 
learning to foster soft skills for the future of work and in innovative ways show how 
technology can be utilized as a tool and a means to an end, where students can 
actively learn in new ways.
