Analyze the following fragments of the text and reveal the functions of intertextual markers, their types and cognitive significance

Madame Chalon, at forty, fitted no category of mur­derers; she was neither Cleopatra nor beldame.   This text includes numerous types of intertextual markers. Generally, author described a lady’s outlook by his out of view. The historical allusion is used with the proper name Cleopatra who was an Egyptian Queen and icon of beauty. The next one is Minerva was the Roman goddess wisdom, this intertextual marker is expressed by mythological allusion. Here we can see a cognitive metaphor in the phraseological unit liquid eyes. By describing her eyes the author used epithet: cobalt blue, Meditterean twinkling.

A literary Judas, I kissed her and betrayed her. Forpieces of silver I dressed her sweet confidences in the pantalettes and frills of folly and made them dance in the market place (O'Henry, Selected Stories, P.74).
