Parts 1, 2, and 3 of the Speaking test demand you to summarize. This is a part of every answer you make to every question. Therefore, you should include words that signal a summary. They are overall, on the whole, basically, and fundamentally. To give reasons, you may use in the first place, for one thing, the main reason why, one of the reasons why, and one reason why. When you talk about consequences, expressions like as a result, as a consequence, consequently, so, because of this, and in this/that way are useful. In part 2 of the Speaking test, there are questions that may require you to narrate some past events that took place in your life. Therefore, you will need expressions that indicate parallel time. Examples of these are at the same time, simultaneously, meanwhile, and in the meantime. Activity A Answer the following questions in parts 1, 2 and 3 of the Speaking test. Make sure you use discourse markers in the answer. Part 1 1. What is your hometown’s name? Can you describe it for me? 2. What is your hometown’s history? 3. Do you prefer going out or staying at home? Why? 4. What do you do when you go out? Part 2 I’d like you to tell me about a piece of equipment in your household (such as a computer, television set, refrigerator, mobile phones, and so on). You should say the following: 1. What is it? 2. What do you do with it? 3. Why is it important to you? Part 3 How do you think will the Internet affect entertainment in the future? Answer Part 1 1. I am a native of a small town named Malita. It is a place located in the southernmost part of the Philippines, with a small population composed of the indigenous people called Kaolos and other minorities. I would say it is a beautiful and peaceful town. 2. Let me think. I don’t really know the details of my hometown’s history. This is because I find it boring to read historical events from books. However, I believe that it has, for every town in the world has its beginnings somewhere in history. 3. I have more fun when I stay at home. There are several reasons for this choice. First, I have a home-based job, and I find myself more effective when doing it at home rather than in any other place. Second, there is privacy at home. This means that I can do activities without other people bothering me. Lastly, I can save money—specifically from that which would have been spent on fare. 4. I really hate crowds, so when I go out, I usually have coffee in a coffee shop or go to bookstores. Part 2 The most important tool present in my house is the computer. Since I have home-based employment, this gadget always comes in handy. I use this to search information for my writing job. In addition, this also serves as my source of entertainment. I can watch movies and games using this tool. On top of that, I teach online using my computer. I can’t imagine how I can fulfill the tasks for my job and earn a living without a computer. Part 3 Admittedly, one cannot predict what the Internet could possibly do in the future, but based on what I observe nowadays, the Internet will surely revolutionise the field of entertainment. Surely, entertainment will be portable, which means that we can watch movies without considering the location. Another illustration of the said change in the entertainment world is that children will be more fascinated with playing online games rather than socializing, and other videos could be freely accessed by many. Entertainment is full of thrills when things are just at our fingertips. Download 5.56 Kb. Do'stlaringiz bilan baham: |
