In recent years, many small local shops have closed because customers travel to large shopping centres or malls to do their shopping. Do you think this is a positive or negative development?

14. Although cars damage the environment, their manufacture and use continue to increase.

Why is this the case?

How can it be controlled?

Despite the fact that cars that run on fossil fuels pollute the air/atmosphere enormously, they are being produced in larger quantities than ever, and their use is also on the rise year by year. I believe that there are some reasons why this is the case, and several solutions to address this issue.

This essay will discuss some reasons why this is the case and solutions to address this issue.

The causes of the increase in car use and manufacture are obvious to see. One of these is that many governments around the world support the automobile industry in many ways. In other words, giant car producers, such as GM and Toyota, receive low-interest loans, subsidies, or tax breaks. As a result of this, these car manufacturers are motivated to make cars in increasing numbers. Furthermore, the affordability of petrol and gas has led to/has brought about/ has resulted in growth in the number of people who travel to work or other places by car in many parts of the world. In some places, driving one's own car is even cheaper than bus fares.

When it comes to solutions, responsibilities mainly lie with governments. A way forward would be to discourage the production of cars that release toxic fumes into air.

For example, if governments raise taxes for carmakers and discontinue other supports provided to them, the number of gas and petrol cars manufactured will definitely decline/ be reduced. Governments should also raise/increase fuel prices, so that it will be very expensive to use private cars. This is because most people prefer cheap travel options, not expensive ones.

In conclusion, the reasons for the trend/this development given in question are mainly related to finances/money. Therefore, the measures should also be financial.
