Information Technology

Information technology (eng. Information technologies) — the term information is derived from the Latin word "informatio" and means information about an object, event, fact, reporting, explaining something. The word technology is a combination of the Greek words "techne" (mastery, skill) and "logos" (learning, understanding) and means a collection of knowledge about the methods and tools for carrying out production processes and those processes themselves.

Purpose:

The purpose of information technology is to produce information for human analysis and decision-making. Information technology has passed several stages of evolution determined by the development of scientific and technical progress, the creation of new technical means for information processing. Computers are considered the main technical means of information processing technology in modern society, which have had a significant impact on the concept of development and use of technological processes, as well as the quality of the resulting information. The application of computers in the information environment and the use of telecommunication tools brought the development of information technology to a new stage. With this, a new information technology phase began.

Principles of development:

Information technology develops on three main principles:

• work in interactive mode on the computer;
• interoperability of software products;
• the flexibility of the process of changing both the data and the problem setting in programming.

Types:

Current information technologies can be divided into two main types:

• data processing technology
• management information technology.

Data processing technology is intended for solving well-structured problems that have the necessary initial data, algorithms for processing and other standard procedures. The application of information technologies and systems at this level increases labor productivity, frees it from computational operations, and in some cases reduces the number of employees. The main goal of management information technology is to meet the information needs of all the decision-making colleagues of the organization. That technology can be useful at any level of management. Information processing in modern computers is performed in the following order. First, the main influencing factors are selected and collected after the studied object or process is investigated in detail. These obtained data are entered into the computer. The entered data is systematized and sent for processing based on general laws. After the processing process, the obtained results are sent to output devices or information carriers.
