M e m o r i a m C L A S S N O T E S Lance Eisenberg ’63, a resident of Miami since 1973, died during cardiac surgery on August 19, 2008. Lance was born June 24, 1945, to Ida and Joseph Eisenberg in the suburb of Bexley in Columbus, Ohio. He attended Columbus Academy and then completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Pennsylvania in 1967. He received his JD from Ohio State and his LLM in tax from NYU. He moved to Miami shortly after graduate school in order to practice tax law. Later in life, he left the prac- tice of law to pursue several computer and internet-based ventures. An avid golfer and baseball fan since childhood, he was a well-known presence on the golf courses of Miami and at Marlins Stadium, where he will be sorely missed by his fellow fans and friends. He was best known for his quick wit and love of food and cooking, which he expertly shared with all who came into his life. Lance is survived by his wife of 24 years Joanne Erde, his daughters Amy Boyers (husband Robert), 36, and Jessica Eisenberg, 23, his twin sons Daniel and Jason Eisenberg, 18, and his twin grandchildren Sasha and Benjamin Boyers, 4.
I ran my last ultra-distance race on October 4 – a 24-hour race in New York City. Now I’m retiring from the sport of ultra-running, which I began with a 50-mile race that won third place nationally for my team in 1981. I won the masters 50-mile New York metro championship for two years straight. In a running career that began at the Academy and included 37 marathons (most under three hours – including the Columbus marathon), I’ve com- pleted fifteen 100-mile trail runs and about 40 races of 50 miles or 50 kilometers (31 miles). This photo was taken after a 12-hour race this summer, featuring Old Tes- tament storms with lightning and driving rain. I’m smil- ing because I’m so glad it’s over!” Jack Brown ’57, according to class agent Dick Lacey ’57, spent the winter playing golf in balmy Florida before Dick Lacey ’57 returning to Columbus to promote the “Palin in 2012” campaign.

The 60s Dave Inglis ’61 went boating with Joel Thomas ’61 on the Chesapeake during an October visit to Annapolis. They met former Bexley friend David Platt, who is sailing his 41- foot cutter from Maine to St. Thomas and stopped at Joel’s dock, conveniently on the Bay. Dave and his wife Judy also went on a Mediterranean cruise, Barcelona to Venice, with ex-Bexley neighbors Shirley and David Postlewaite ’59.

While in the nation’s capital, he received a special tour of the Wash- ington Nationals’ new baseball stadium from Squire Gal- breath ’79, who is the major league team’s assistant general manager for baseball administration. As you can see in the photo, John was thrilled to be on the field during batting practice! The 70s Craig Brooks ’75 writes: “I’m still living in Harrison Township, Mich., working for General Motors as a staff project engineer. I design the 4WD systems for the Silver- ado, Yukon, Escalade and Hummer2. I now have 23.5 years here and hope GM can stay afloat long enough for me to retire. I have been married now for the same 23.5 years, but we have no children. This allows me the flex- ibility to hunt, fish, dive and travel. We live on a canal that lets into Lake Saint Clair, a wonderful, clean, shal- low lake.” Ken Brown ’75 writes to his classmates: “Okay, so I kind of look old in this picture from senior soccer night at Academy last week. But at least Blythe still looks great! Please let me know what is going on with you. Send me a picture. Send me an update. Other class- mates are wondering what you are up to. Don’t make them go to some website to find out. I am still in ad- vertising at SBC Advertising. We just moved down to the Arena District in Columbus, right next to the new minor league baseball park. A home run to right field will reach our parking lot. Business world is dicey, to say the least, but we are actually having a pretty good year so far. Blythe is working two jobs now – property man- agement for her family and selling clothes at Talbots in Easton. Most spare time is spent encouraging our sen- ior to get his college applications done. Our oldest, Michael ’09, is having a great soccer season with 13 goals, about double my best year. He played in Crew Stadium against Peter White’s ’75 son, who scored a great goal.
