Unit 1

Electricity

Henry University

Department of Engineering Introduction to Electricity (ENGR 220)
This course provides a foundation for advanced study of electrical systems. It is divided into four sections. The first section focuses on electrons and other particles that hold a charge. Understanding how these particles act is incredibly important. Next, the course will move to electric currents. This includes
DC AC alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC). Properties of electricity, such as voltage, will also be covered.
Ohm's Law and resistance will be introduced as well. The third section will introduce the units we use to measure electricity. These include volts, ampers, ohms and watts. An understanding of currents prepares students for the fourth section. This sections focuses on circuits. By the end of the semester, students will have a working knowledge of electrical terms.
