Article Provided by: MN CYPRUS “Colleagues serving with Marlow for 10 years” June 2011 8th Issue 25 Marlow Navigation Ukraine Opening of Local Branch in Nikolayev Marlow Navigation Ukraine’s philosophy is to constantly improve all aspects of activities. Efficient network of modern powerful branches in major sea ports of Ukraine is a key factor to further company development and progress. Bad times of crisis is not a reason to quit our own principles. In order to support the increased volume of recruited seafarers, the local branch office in Nikolayev has moved to new enlarged premises. The 130 square metres brand new office, located in the city centre was specially designed by young talented Ukrainian interior designer in modern marine style with metal channel bars crossing the office and a draft of vessel hanging from the ceiling. The opening party was held on the 22 nd of March 2011 which was done by the Managing Director of Marlow Ukraine Capt. Boris Ezri, who cut a blue ribbon, a symbol of house warming, and gave a speech, greeting the crew and their families and presenting them with their “new home” in Nikolayev. The Head of Kherson State Maritime Institute Mr. Volodymyr Khodakovskiy, accompanied by the Marine Brass Band from Kherson State Maritime Institute congratulated Marlow Ukraine for this great event, wishing productive work with increasing prospects. Marlow Ukraine seafarers together with their wives gathered to celebrate this great event. All seafarers who attended the opening party were given special gifts. This event was a party to remember, hoping that Marlow Navigation Ukraine local office in Nikolayev will become June 2011 26 home and centre of attraction for ex-crew as well as for new employees of the company.
Marlow Ukraine - Football Team The “Marlow Navigation Ukraine” football team was established after the request of the staff and the approval of the management. The “Marlow Navigation Ukraine” football team plays in the F.L.A.G. League (Amateur Football League founded by Andrey Golubov). The F.L.A.G., was established in June 2008 with 14 amateur teams from Odessa and other Odessa regions and today consists of 90 teams. The games are weekly broadcasted by 5 Odessa TV channels. Presently the team consists of 15 players, a well qualified coach and an increasing group of fans. It was agreed to provide 2-3 days weekly training which gave an immediate progress to the team. So far, the “Marlow Navigation Ukraine” football team has 20 points as a result of 10 games, being 4th in position among 17 clubs of Odessa and Odessa region. There is always room for improvement and challenge to reach the highest positions, however, the victory is not always the only target, but having a strong team and active participation. This 4 km long run does not only guide through “HafenCity” which is directly at the water between the fascinating port and the pulsating shopping malls, it also serves a good cause, a project named “children help children” which supports children to increase their sport activities. Therefore the German office again joined this run on the 25 th of June. The good news was that the best team would win a nice trip from Hamburg to Southampton with the well-known “Queen Mary 2”. The bad news was that the competitors consisted of about 500 teams and with 11000 runners it was certainly an extraordinary challenge. The German colleagues gave their best as always.
MN Netherlands and also expressed his gratitude to our seafarer Cook Crispim Lopes dos Santos who after 25 years serving with Marlow decided to retire. A delicious buffet was served on board, but it was not only the tasty food that everyone enjoyed, but also the amazing atmosphere on the vessel. All the colleagues or at least most of them were dancing to the music that was played by a live band until the early hours. In the late morning of the following day, our Hamburg office together with other colleagues had the opportunity to visit the famous Rotterdam Maritime Museum.

They were amazed by almost everything they saw, but especially by two shiny, silver walls that could move apart and then slide back together again. The boy asked, "What is this Father?" The father (never having seen an elevator) responded, "Son, I have never seen anything like this in my life, I don't know what it is." While the boy and his father were watching with amazement, a fat old lady in a wheel chair moved up to the moving walls and pressed a button. The walls opened, and the lady rolled between them into a small room. The walls closed, and the boy and his father watched the small numbers above the walls light up sequentially. They continued to watch until it reached the last number, and then the numbers began to light in the reverse order. Finally the walls opened up again and a gorgeous 24-year-old blond stepped out. The father, not taking his eyes off the young woman, said quietly to his son..... "Go get your Mother." THE SECRET Two boys were talking and the one said to the other, "There is an easy way to get what you want." The other boy said, "How?" the boy replied, "Tell people you know their secret." The boy jumps up and runs to his dad, "I know your secret!" The dad replies, "Please don't tell your mom, here’s $10." The boy then runs to his mom, "I know your secret!" The mom said, "Please don't tell your dad, here's $15." The boy then decides to try it on the mail man, "I know your secret!" The mail man opened his arms and said, "Come, give your dad a hug!" LADY ON THE BUS A woman gets on a bus with her baby. The bus driver says: “That's the ugliest baby that I've ever seen. Ugh!” The woman goes to the rear of the bus and sits down, fuming. She says to a man next to her: “The driver just insulted me!” The man says: “You go right up there and tell him off… go ahead, I'll hold your monkey for you.”
