Keith Haring


Keith Haring

  • Born in 1959 and died in 1990.

  • Initially seen as a graffiti artist who used vacant advertising boards in New York in the early 1980s as his canvas.

  • His images have conspicuous energy and bold colors and lines.

  • He opened his own retail stores including Wham Bam in Miami and Pop Shop in New York

  • He focused his work on many political messages including domestic violence, child abuse and AIDS awareness.



Haring’s Art Style

  • Haring’s inspiration came from punk and rap music at the East Village Club scene, break dancing and graffiti

  • His images conveyed his interest in graphic design and simplified figurative forms.

Wire Sculptures

  • Choose a 30 inch wire for your figure. Smaller wire pieces can be used for hair, clothes, etc.

  • 1. Fold wire in half

  • 2. Twist to make a head

  • 3. Fold ends up so that head is in the middle.

  • 4. Twist around neck.

  • 5. Stretch top wires out to sides, bend across to other side overlapping the center about one inch.

  • 6. Twist arms

  • 7. Twist body

  • 8. Twist at wrist and ankles

  • 9. Pose your figure and add accessories and details with other colors and pieces.
