3.4 Pupils’ Questionnaire
The survey was targeted at sixth and ninth graders. The main objective of the research was to compare and analyse attitudes and opinions of two diametrically different groups: the youngest and the oldest pupils in lower-secondary schools. At this point, the questions arise: Do sixth and ninth graders enjoy playing games? Would they use them in their lessons? Do students and teachers share the same opinion about games in English lessons? There were ninety respondents taking part in the survey: forty-two boys and forty-eight girls. The percentage structure is shown below: Out of a total of ninety pupils there were fifty-four sixth graders (sixty per cent) and thirty-six ninth graders (forty per cent). The first question dealt with playing games in general. As the Graph 20 shows eighty-nine participants (ninety-nine per cent) stated that they played games. Only one respondent wrote that he did not play them. As it is clear from the Graph 21 the respondent who does not play games is a boy from the ninth grade. The survey indicated low popularity of word games. They are played by mere eleven per cent of ninth grade boys followed by twenty per cent of sixth grade boys and twenty-eight per cent of ninth grade girls. Graph below illustrates the percentage representation of various types of games. As it was already mentioned the first place is occupied by computer games. Graph 12 Types of the games The third question dealt with frequency of playing games. Unfortunately, not all respondents answered the question – six per cent of them left it unanswered (they represent the category “unknown”). The survey question in this particular case was supposed to be formulated in a different way to get more precise responses. Graph 13 How often do you play games? - total results The following survey questions dealt with using games in English lessons. The fourth question “Do you play games in English lessons?” collected strikingly different responses. Even respondents attending the same English class came up with different answers. Sixth grade girls are the only group that shared the same opinion. The sixth question dealt with frequency of using games in English lessons. Download 264.13 Kb. Do'stlaringiz bilan baham: |
