Set your Wi-Fi password
The second important point of setting up is setting a password to access your Wi-Fi network. This will protect you from connecting to the wireless network of third-party users.
Many believe that this is also not necessary and leave the network open. But once connected to your network, another user can download torrents or play online games, which uses a lot of traffic and will load your router. And it, in turn, can glitch and hang, sink the speed and quality of Internet access.
To change your password, go to the "Wireless" tab. And look for the item "wireless mode Protection"("Wireless Security").

If you disable protection of the wireless network, then activate it. To do this, select one of the offered security options. For a standard situation, the recommended protection "WPA/WPA2"will suffice.
Enter the desired password in the "Wireless Password" field.
Do not use passwords consisting of eight ones or zeros, or numbers from one to eight. Create a strong password that contains uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters. Make sure to write down your new password to remind you if you forget it.
Read more about all other Wi-Fi settings in our other article.
Disable the WPS function
The third thing to do is disable the WPS function. This feature allows you to quickly connect to a wireless network without entering a password. In practice, few people use the WPS function, and it is extremely unstable to hacking, so we recommend disabling it.
To do this, go to the "WPS" tab (sometimes it is located in the "Wireless mode"/"Wireless" menu) and select "Disable WPS"..

Hide the wireless network name
Hide your network from prying eyes. There is a special function in the router settings that allows you to hide the network. After you activate it, other devices will no longer see your Wi-Fi network. And to connect to it, you will need to specify not only the password, but also the network name (SSID).
You can enable this feature in your wireless network settings by unchecking "Enable SSID Broadcast".

After that, other devices will not see it, and on a Windows 10 computer, you will see a hidden network in the list of networks. When trying to connect, you will need to enter the network name (SSID) first, and then the password, and if everything is specified correctly, only then you will connect to it.

You won't see it on your phone at all.to connect, you will need to go to the Wi-Fi settings and create a new network. Then enter the network name (SSID) and password.
