When you make an argument in your writing, you first need to state your opinion. Your opinion is your belief about the main idea. After stating your opinion, introduce an opinion that opposes yours. This is called a counterargument. When you make an argument in your writing, it is also important to include a refutation. A refutation is a response to the counterargument. It brings readers back to your opinion and strengthens your opinion.
