Lesson plan.
Topic: Umarova Muhabbat.
Lesson title: To improve vocabulary and speaking in Sport using Task Based Learning.
Level of learners: Intermediate.
Type of lesson: Speaking and vocabulary.
Number of participants: 15 students
Time: 45 minutes.
Teacher: Umarova Muhabbat.
Aim: To develop the language skills of students by doing different types of speaking and vocabulary activities.
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to
( Cognitive goal: ) Students will learn the types of sports and what types of popularity.
( Performance goal: ) Using the given activities, students will practice how types of sports differs from each other.
( Effective goal: ) At end of the lesson they use speaking strategies, learn to use new vocabulary in their speech.
Procedure:
- Teacher greets with students, ask who is on duty today and takes his/her report about who is absent;
- Begins the lesson with warming up;
- Teacher explains the topic by using activities prepared by her which are very motivating;
- Then at the end teacher marks put students and say goodbye.
Warm-up activity.
Objective: To create language atmosphere and to lead the students to the topic they are going to discuss.
Time: 5 minutes
Materials: None.
Teacher asks some questions related to the topic:

  • Which sports are popular in Uzbekistan?

  • Who do you know from famous sportsmen?

  • Playing sports or computer games? Which do you prefer? Why?

Pre-stage of the lesson
Activity 1.
Time: 7 minutes
Objective: To improve students' language skills as well as provide them with the knowledge about sport.
Materials: Handout.
Teacher distributes handouts to students and they choose the correct answer for each picture.


Activity 2.
Time: 8 minutes.
Objective: Vocabulary ability grows, learns the meaning and pronunciation of new words.
Materials: Handout.
Teacher distributes handouts to students and they write the correct number in front of each word.



While stage of the lesson
Activity 3.
Time: 15 minutes
Objective: To develop speaking skill, to be able to use new words.
Materials: Checkers.
Students are divided into two groups. One student is selected from each group. They play checkers. If one checkers piece is lost, the student from the losing group is replaced by another student. A student from the winning group is asked a question, if he/she answers the question, she/he continues in the game. If he/she cannot answer, another student takes her/his place.
Questions:

  • What's your favorite sport? How often do you play?

  • How many hours of sports do you have in school? Is this enough?

  • Which sports do you think are dangerous? What can happen?

  • Is there a sports center near your home? How often do you go there?

  • Do you prefer playing or watching sports? Explain.

  • Name 3 sports played with a ball. Explain the rules for one.

  • Do you prefer individual or team sports? Explain why.

  • Who's your favorite sports personality? Why?

  • Name 3 winter sports.

  • Do you think sports are important?

  • Have you ever tried extreme sports?

Post activity
Activity 4.
Time: 10 minutes.
Objective: Repeating new words and consolidating knowledge.
Materials: Handout.
Teacher distributes handouts to students and they find the sport name in the wordsearch and write it under the correct picture.

Assessment:
Teacher gives some comments about their participation and put them marks.
Homework: Write a text about your favorite sport.
