Stylistic lexicology. In the given fragment of REBECCA we can find two 
examples of using phraseological units: `You would feel then you were getting 
your money's worth' (it means to get something worth the price that you paid); `My 
mind ran riot then…' (if your imagination, emotions, thoughts etc run riot, you 
cannot or do not control them). The stylistic function of phraseological units is not 
nominating of any new phenomena, they give a concrete definition and figuratively 
emotional evaluation of the subjects, phenomena, actions 
 
 


CONCLUSION 
To sum all above mentioned assumptions, we have proved that conducted 
research confirms the suggested hypothesis that the peculiarity of linguopragmatic
approach in literary discourse in English and Karakalpak languages is revealed in 
a specific linguistic form of reflection of its semantic-stylistic, pragmatic, 
cognitive, national and cultural characteristics. In the conceptual basis and 
proposed methodology of the dissertation paper the study of linguopragmatic 
approach effectively employs pragmatic intentions as a means of representing by 
attracting attention, interesting the reader, exerting emotional impact, activizing 
knowledge structures, stimulating the addressee’s creativity, representing the 
conceptual world picture. Thus, the efforts put forth in the systemic description of 
linguopragmatic approachto text analysis makes a certain contribution to the 
development of theories of discourse, problems of interpretation of literary 
discource. Several types of PI (pragmatic intention) can be distinguished and the 
impact of each can vary in certain context. Consequently, the language means, 
structural and semantic features in the literary discourse are selected based on the 
type and impact of PI. Thus, these language units help to determine pragmatic 
intentions implicitly or explicitly in pragmatic analysis. 
In the paper three main levels of realizing the pragmatic orientation of the text 
distinguished: scheme, composition, style. And really the-text of any type can be 
considered to be a result of some succession in the acts of choice at different levels 
of its engendering: at the level of the initial scheme, i.e. the choice of ideas and 
themes; at the level of structural-semantic organization of the text, i.e. the choice 
of the definite order in the consecution of themes and ideas; and at the level of the 
verbal style — the choice of language forms, expressive means, their combinatory 
and so on. All these facts of choice are unquestionally interdependent —they form 
art organized hierarchic system which embodies the pragmatic orientation of the 
text. 


Linguopragmatic approach puts forward the problem of pragmatic intention as 
one of the crucial means in the analyzing effectiveness of impact and perception of 
communication in the literary discourse. Pragmatic intention is defined as 
“verbalized in the text the addresser’s deliberate intention to exert influence on the 
addressee with the aim to cause some reconstruction in his/her world picture” [3, 
4]. Several types of PI (pragmatic intention) can be distinguished and the impact of 
each can vary in certain context. Consequently, the language means, structural and 
semantic features in the literary discourse are selected based on the type and 
impact of PI. Thus, these language units help to determine pragmatic intentions 
implicitly or explicitly in pragmatic analysis. So, the following types of PI are 
distinguished: - 
The pragmatic intention “to attract attention” (attention-compelling intention); -
The pragmatic intention “to interest the reader”; 
- The pragmatic intention “to exert an emotional impact”;
- The pragmatic intention “to activize knowledge structures” relevant to the 
conceptual information;
- The pragmatic intention “to stimulate the addressee’s creativity”;
- The pragmatic intention “to represent the conceptual world picture”
In the work we analyzed literary texts in which each of these pragmatic intentions 
convey. Contemporary research of linguo-stylistic phenomena demonstrates 
scholars’ interest in stylistic devices as complex units interpreted by considering 
both linguistic and extralinguistic factors. We consider that stylistic devices should 
be analysed using the elements of pragmatic and discourse analysis. Special 
attention should be paid to the pragmatic potential of stylistic devices which raises 
the possibility of a wider interpretation of semantic and structural components of 
stylistic units. The analysis of stylistic devices is not confined to the interpretation 
of their structure and semantic components; they can be correlated with people’s 
cognitive activity and background. Readers do not just perceive ideas presented in 


literary discourse explicitly; authors refer to their readers’ background knowledge 
and experience to find new ways to conceptualise objects and situations. Using this 
approach, we can consider stylistic devices as complex units which involve 
linguistic factors, pragmatic constituents and abstract conceptual domains. It is a 
step forward from the intertextual analysis to discourse analysis which takes into 
account linguistic and extralinguistic factors. 
In general all the analyzed pragmatic intentions are important for Text Linguistics 
and interpretation of literary texts. According to our analysis of literary texts the 
most frequently used PI in English language is Pragmatic intentions to attract 
readers’ attention and to stimulate the reader’s activity while in Karakalpak 
language PIs to exert emotional impact on the reader and to interest the reader.The 
results are given in the Table 2.
