Email: frgf.dekanat@rambler.ru Kinship terminology is of great interest for linguists due to a number of reasons. Par- ticularly, for the units of this semantic field, especially its nuclear part, i.e. words denoting people who are related by direct (blood) relationship, refer to the nuclear part of any lan- guage system. The author of the article describes a classification of this group of lexical units based on a number of characteristic features: the degree of kinship (direct or blood kinship) and kinship level (i.e. chronological distance of a denoted person from homo lo- quens in perspective and retrospective ways). In the article, a detailed description of differ- ent areas of the semantic field in different languages is also given. Ethno and linguocultural peculiarities of kinship terminology in phraseological units, proverbs, and sayings as well as in the names of sociocultural events in the life of this or that linguosociety, historical dates, rituals, etc. are looked into.
