4-theme. Ethnic formation of the Uzbek nation. 
The notions of a kin, a tribe, people and nation. The first stage of ethnic 
formation of the Uzbek nation (from the middle of the first thousand year B.C up to the 
IX century A.D.) The formation of the Uzbek nation is a long-continued process. The 
tribes who were engaged in settled peasantry and nomadic cattle breeding and who 
lived in Baktria, Sogdiyena, Parkana, Tokharistan, Chach were the ancient inhabitants 
of the territories of our country. Massagets Saks, Choresmians, Bakrians, Sogdiys, 
Tokhars, and Dovoniys are the ancient ancestors of the present Uzbek nation. The 
influence of the Ahamoniys, Greek and Arabian conquest to the ethnic formation and 
structure of local population. 
IX-XII centuries-the second stage of the Uzbek nation formation. Qarluks and 
Chiguls’ role in the formation of the Uzbek nation which is a long-continued and 
complex process. The ethnic processes among other regions’ tribes and local 
population in different centuries. The ethnic-social situation in Central Asian region in 
the middle of the first thousand year B.C. The influence of the Qarluks Oghiz, 
Qipchaqs, Chighils and other Turkic people on the ethnic formation of the Uzbek 
nation. The development of the Karluk-Chighil dialect which is the formation basis of 
the old Uzbek language. Arriving of Dashti-Qipchaq tribes in Central Asia and their 
mixing up with the local population and settling. Emergence of the term of “Uzbek”. 
The ethnic situation in Uzbekistan during the years of independence and positive 
changes in this field. Inter-ethnic friendship and cooperation.
