(150-200 words) Which the most important topics did Erskine Caldwell write in his work “Tobacco Road”? (150-200 words) ANSWERS Between the two world wars, American writing saw a "second flowering," according to literary historian Malcolm Cowley. Undoubtedly, in the 1920s and 1930s, American literature achieved a new maturity and a rich diversity, and important works by a number of key figures from those years were published after 1945. Frost, Eliot, Wallace Stevens, Marianne Moore, E.E. Cummings, William Carlos Williams, and Gwendolyn Brooks released significant poetry, while Faulkner, Hemingway, Steinbeck, and Katherine Anne Porter produced notable fiction, albeit below their prewar level. The most renowned drama by Eugene O'Neill, Long Day's Journey into Night, was published posthumously in 1956. Robert Penn Warren published significant works of fiction, poetry, and criticism both before and during World War II. The 1947 Pulitzer Prize went to his book All the King's Men, one of the best American political novels. Mary McCarthy rose to prominence as an author and social satirist. Henry Miller's fiction was prominent when it first appeared in the United States in the 1960s, especially due to its open examination of sexuality. However, its free, picaresque, and almost autobiographical nature also blended in well with literature from the post-1960s. After the war, a number of noteworthy new playwrights, poets, and novelists appeared. In reality, the guard was gradually changing. A new generation emerged from the conflict, and not only was it socially, ethnically, and geographically distinct from the one before it. Children of immigrants, many of them Jews, African Americans who were just a few generations removed from slavery, and finally women who would speak in a new voice with the emergence of feminism were among the younger writers. Despite the conservative and even conformist social climate of the postwar era, some of the most hotly debated authors of the era included Tennessee Williams, Truman Capote, Paul Bowles, Gore Vidal, and James Baldwin, whose dark themes and avant-garde writing styles paved the way for Beat authors like Allen Ginsberg, William S. Burroughs, and Jack Kerouac. The American Dream, Racism, Dreams of freedom and change, Music, and Black pride are some of the significant topics found throughout Langston Hughes' writings. Let's go through one of poems by Langston Hughes's main themes in more details. Download 15.88 Kb. Do'stlaringiz bilan baham: |
