UNEP - United Nations
Environment Programme
The Production and Consumption Unit of UNEP
DTIE in Paris was established in 1975
to bring
industry, governments and non-governmental
organizations together to work towards
environmentally-sound forms of industrial
development. This is done by:
•
Encouraging the incorporation of
environmental criteria in industrial
development.
•
Formulating
and facilitating the
implementation of principles and procedures
to protect the environment.
•
Promoting the use of low- and non-waste
technologies.
•
Stimulating the worldwide exchange of
information and experience on
environmentally-sound forms of industrial
development.
This Unit
has developed a programme on
Awareness and Preparedness for Emergencies at
Local Level (APELL) to prevent and to respond
to technological accidents, and a programme to
promote worldwide Cleaner Production.
