Laboratory work # 1 
Theme: Study of general principles of mobile communication systems 
Purpose of work: to study the basic principles of mobile networks. To 
study the principle of organization of mobile networks based on the subsystem 
of GSM-900 base stations. 
Perform territorial-frequency planning of the subsystem of base stations of 
GSM-900 network in a given territory. The territory is an urban development, 
divided into two zones: Central and peripheral. For each zone, the radius R, the 
number of subscribers N in the PLH, the load from one subscriber Y in the PLH 
are given. The following limitations must be considered in the calculation. peak 
load hour:
• 27 frequency channels are allocated for the implementation of the system,
• the probability of call blocking is 5%,
• in the cluster are combined 3-4 cells,
• each cell is divided into 3 sectors,
• radius of cells in urban areas 0.4-6 km,
• the efficiency of the frequency channel should be 70-100%.
It is necessary to calculate the number of cells in the system, the number of 
frequency channels in the cell, to assign frequencies in the cluster.
It is also necessary to calculate the amount of BSS equipment, using Huawei 
equipment in the construction of the network.
