Quite a lot of work, as you can see. But each of these points is important! And before we start writing, a little bit of theory.

    1. What do I write about?

It can be difficult for a beginner to decide what to write about. Experience shows that the best themes combine several key features:

  • The subject is familiar to you, you already have something to say on it.

  • You are interested in this topic, you are ready to go into it further, to get acquainted with how other authors cover this topic.

  • You know what your experience and opinions on this topic will be useful readers.

  • You understand which edition can be offered an article on this topic.

Before you sift your professional experience through these four sittings, let’s get to grips with such concepts as the topic and the problem of the article.

    1. Subject

The topic of the article is its main essence, the content expressed in the most general way, the answer to the question «What is this article?» The topic may be narrow, dealing with one aspect of the phenomenon described, or broad - then it should reflect several directions, revealing the topic [9; 13].
Consider four topics as examples:

  1. Socio-psychological assistance for families and children at risk.

  2. Provision of socio-psychological services at Social Assistance Centres for Family and Children of Saint Petersburg.

  3. Features of the organization of training of children and parents in the practice of the Center of social assistance to the family and children of the N-Petersburg district.

  4. Methods of involving young parents from among graduates of children’s homes and boarding schools in training of child-parental relations (from the experience of the Center of Social Assistance to Family and Children of the N-Petersburg District).

The first theme is very broad, covering a variety of aspects of working with families and children at risk. In this case, the author is expected to get a definition of the concept of «risk group», analytical comments to the existing theory, justification of indicators of the inclusion of families and children in this group, explanations on the practice of providing socio-psychological assistance, not limited to narrow topics. It is quite reasonable to expect from the article on this topic and historical excursion, and analysis of foreign practice, and systematization of methods and techniques of providing social and psychological assistance. The generalized wording in the title of the work is the author’s application for expert status in the topic. However, with such a breadth of the topic, claiming the whole collection or monograph, it is not clear what the author will be able to put in the framework of one article. What this article can be useful to the reader - from such a title is also difficult to understand. All you can count on is a brief overview of the topic and qualitative selection of primary sources in the list of literature, which will certainly give the reader guidance for further self-education, but only.
The second theme, as we see it, has already been formulated. This article covers only some aspects of the previous topic, which is indicated in the title. It is clear that only social and psychological services and only the specifics of the assistance organized in the social service institutions of the population are mentioned. It is understandable that such an article narrows the circle of potential readers, but the benefits of it can be much more. At the very least, the reader is already oriented by the title towards what will be the limited scope of the issues and may decide whether to read more deeply. However, the topic is broad enough to suggest that the author is competent enough to make his generalizations and conclusions useful to a wide range of industry professionals.
The third topic raises a very specific question, and readers' expectations of this kind of article are also specific. Learn how the training of children and parents in this institution is organized and how this practice is different from other similar. It is clear that the reader of the article is likely to be a specialist who is interested in the topic of organization of trainings for parents, perhaps he himself conducts such trainings. It is understood that the author of the article, if not an expert in the field of training, has sufficient experience of this kind to generalize and analyze his practice in comparison with the practice of specialists of other similar institutions.
The fourth theme is narrower than the previous one. It not only specifies the scope and place of the training of child-parental relations, but also understands the key client - young parents from among the graduates of children’s homes, as well as the specific problem that concerns the author - involvement in the training. The problem is so narrow that it seems to be losing compared to the previous three. We can assure you not. For professional industry publications or publications addressed to specific professionals, the most valuable are precisely narrow articles from professional practitioners. In them, the authors reveal the secrets of the profession, answer the most pressing questions, address quite specific specifics of the activity of specialists. And it is the aspiring authors who can do this kind of problem.
