During the XVIII-XX centuries, the English language was replenished with only a small number of French words associated with the French bourgeois revolution, with separate concepts, etc. All of them are distinguished by their spelling and have an accent on the last syllable in the image of the French language. This suggests that the words in question, except for some, have not yet had time to assimilate into the English language²³.
So, in the first chapter, we examined the criteria that allow us to assert that a given word is indeed a borrowing and examined a number of words that were borrowed from the French language.

Conclusion

The French language had the greatest influence on English in the Middle English period. Attempts to continue the accumulation of borrowings in the 20th century did not bring much success, since the need for such borrowings disappeared - the language became self-sufficient.
In our opinion, we managed to study the problem of French borrowings in English. We analyzed the possible ways of penetration of French words into English, considered various types of borrowings.
In the practical part, we considered this problem in practice. Having identified and studied borrowings, we examined their quantitative ratio in the works of English authors of the 19th and 20th centuries.
And yet, the presence in modern English of a significant number of French borrowings explains the great role that they played in enriching the vocabulary and in the formation of the lexical norms of the English language, since borrowings allow the language to save its own nomination possibilities, and contribute to the further development of word formation.
Despite some clogging of the English vocabulary with words borrowed from other languages, the English language as a whole has not suffered from a large influx of foreign language elements. On the contrary, his vocabulary has undoubtedly been enriched. This became possible due to the fact that he assimilated foreign language elements, having absorbed everything valuable and necessary, discarding everything accidental in the course of further development.
