I
magine opening a novel and seeing that the entire text is one giant paragraph. How would you feel? You’d
probably feel overwhelmed and more than a little annoyed with the author. Why didn’t he
break the text
into paragraphs? How are you going to know when he shifts from idea to idea? How inconsiderate!
Paragraphs are so central to good writing that we tend to take them for granted. Nevertheless, it’s worth
reviewing their function and recognizing the important benefits they provide.
