MMX technology is an enhancement to the Pentium Processor, which can improve a personal computer’s multimedia performance by up to 60%.
The enhancement, which is independent of the operating system, includes 57 new instructions designed to manipulate and process video, audio and graphical data efficiently.

These instructions have been developed for the highly parallel, repetitive sequences found in multimedia operations.
Specific applications targeted by the development of MMX technology include 3D visualization and videoconferencing.
