I. Вставьте артикли, где они необходимы. Переведите предложения.
There is more water than land on our planet. Largest and deepest ocean in world is Pacific, then comes Atlantic. Indian Ocean is only a little smaller. Smallest ocean is Arctic. Longest river in world is Mississipi, largest sea is Mediterranean, deepest lake is Lake Baikal.

II. Заполните пропуски неопределенными местоимениями и наречиями.
1. Can … help me with this work today? 2. … must be done to save the child’s life. 3. We got home late and … went to bed at once. 4. Can you get this book for me …? 5. Is … clear to you or shall I repeat the rule? 6. Ask … else. I know … about it, so I can’t tell you.

III. Переведите предложения на русский язык, обращая внимание на употребление причастий I и II и на их функцию в предложении.
1. All the engineers working at the Foreign Trade Ministry must know foreign languages. 2. When speaking at the meeting yesterday, I forgot this fact. 3. The problem discussed at the meeting was very important. 4. Not knowing his address, I couldn’t visit him. 5. He liked to sit in the armchair watching TV.

IV. Мысль, заключенную в придаточном предложении, выразите причастным оборотом, где это возможно.
1. Students who read a lot in English know the language better than those who don’t read at all. 2. Once when I was walking in the wood, I found a flower which I had never seen before. 3. I always read books which describe the lives of great people with interest. 4. When we discussed that book, we found a lot of interesting things. 5. As I was very busy, I couldn’t help him.

V. Ответьте на вопросы, обращая внимание на форму времени глагола – сказуемого.
1. How many English books have you read since you began to learn English? 2. We haven’t heard from you since you left school. Where have you been? 3. How long have you known you best friend? 4. Which museums have you visited since you lived in Kirov? 5. Have you seen your teachers since you left school?
