My story will be about the cleaning company SOL. First, I will talk about SOL in general terms, and then I will talk in detail about the features of the company. The cleaning company SOL was founded by Liisa Joronen eleven years ago. This is a business that grew out of a hundred and fifty year old empire of Liisa’s family. SOL’s headquarters are located in the center of Helsinki. The office explodes with colour, creativity and chaos. So, the walls in the office are red, white and yellow. SOL’s competitive formula has five key ingredients. Firstly, cleaners can enjoy their work. Liisa Joronen believes that the keys to satisfaction are fun and individual freedom. So, its cleaners wear red-and yellow jumpsuit. There are no rules, no titles and secretaries, no individual offices and set hours of work, no perks and status symbols. Secondly, the company has training programme which consist of seven modules, at the and of which there will be an exam. SOL employees also study time management, budgeting and people skills. Thirdly, employees set their own targets. The real power players of the company are its 135 supervisors, each of whom leads a team of up to 50 cleaners. These supervisors work with their teams to create their own budgets and do their hiring. Foursty, SOL is fanatical about measuring performance. It focuses on customer satisfaction. Supervisor team and client create benchmarks together. Then each month the customer rates the team’s performance based on those benchmarks. Finally, great service requires cutting-edge technology. Laptops and cell-phones are standard equipment for all supervisors at SOL, freeing them to work where they want, how they want. The company stores all the information on its Intranet.
