Flushing Dreams 
John Paul Jackson, an authority on dreams, says that 
some dreams can be classified as flushing dreams, meaning 
those that one can flush down the toilet. He says that we are in 
the world but not of it. Soot gets on us. God flushes it down so 
that it doesn’t stain us.

Some dreams worthy of flushing may 
be caused by overwork or heat. 
For myself, I get dreams almost every night and some-
times more than one. Upon arising or in the middle of the night, 
I have to decide whether to record the dream or just forget it. 
Often I say, “Lord, speak to me again about that subject if that 
is really You. I don’t want to miss You.” 
Chemical Dreams 
Prescription drugs, medicine, alcohol, aspirin, ibu-
prophen or any foreign chemical will alter our normal thought 
processes and change our subconscious mind while sleeping. I 
read also that the herb, St. John’s Wart, alters the chemicals in 
the brain. It enhances serotonin transmission. This directly re-
lates to depression because depression is believed to result from 
faulty neurotransmission. A person will feel relieved when 
more serotonin is produced.

As a Christian we know that praise, joy and laughter 
have a healing effect on our brain. It has been noted that certain 
enzymes are released from the brain when one is praising the 
Lord. Therefore, it is a good idea to listen to praise music or

meditate on Scripture before going to sleep. Mild exercise is 
also good before bed and laughter is good for the immune sys-
tem. Our bodies are fearfully and wonderfully made. 
I am not against taking herbs to help prevent some 
sickness or enhance a healing process. In fact, I recommend 
them. When my husband and I lived in the jungle, our students 
and foreign director knew of many natural remedies, which we 
sometimes used along with prayer and the Word.
