3.2. POWER POINT PRESENTATION IS THE BEST WAY TO UPGRADE THE COMPETENCE OF THE LEARNERS.
When planned and used effectively, PowerPoint (or similar tools, like Google Slides) can enhance education. People are divided on the effectiveness of this ubiquitous presentation program: Some say PowerPoint is great, while others complain about its ubiquity. Whichever way you choose, PowerPoint offers effective ways to enhance education when used and designed correctly. PowerPoint can be an effective tool for presenting material in class and stimulating student learning. You can use PowerPoint to project images that would otherwise be difficult to bring to class. For example, in an anthropology class, a single PowerPoint presentation might project images of an anthropological dig from a remote area, ask students questions about the topic, a review of related statistics, and a mini-quiz about what was just discussed, giving students visual, stimulating and engaging information. 8PowerPoint can be used to prepare lectures and presentations by helping instructors refine their material to salient points and content. Class lectures can be typed in outline format, which can then be refined as slides. Lecture notes can be printed as notes pages and could also be given as handouts to accompany the presentation. Using PowerPoint can help you present information in multiple ways (a multimodal approach) through the projection of color, images, and video for the visual modality; sound and music for auditory modality; text and write prompts for read/write mode; and interactive slides asking students to do something, e.g. a group or class activity in which students practice concepts, for the kinesthetic modality. Providing information in multiple ways helps improve understanding and retention for all students. PowerPoint allows users to type directly during the presentation, providing another form of interaction. These writable slides can be used to project student comments and ideas for the whole class to see. Once the presentation is complete, the new material can be saved in the original file and published electronically. This feature requires advanced preparation in the PowerPoint file while creating the presentation. For instructions on setting up your slide's text box for typing, check out this tutorial from Addictive Tips. PowerPoint also allows users to use tools to highlight or write directly on a presentation while it's live. When presenting your PowerPoint, hover over the slide to reveal the tools in the lower left corner. One of the tools is a pencil icon. Click this icon to select a laser pointer, pen, or highlighter. You can use your cursor for these options, or you can use the stylus on your smart podium computer monitor or touchscreen laptop monitor (if applicable). 9You can make your PowerPoint slides, outlines, and notes pages available online 24/7 via Blackboard, One Drive, and other sites. Students can review material before class, bring handouts to class, and be better prepared to listen instead of taking lots of notes during class time. You can also come to class prepared with questions about the material so you can approach your understanding of the concepts. The following techniques can be incorporated into PowerPoint presentations to increase interactivity and engagement among students and between students and the teacher. Each technique can be projected as a separate PowerPoint slide. Running a presentation as students arrive in class creates visual interest and can include a series of questions students have to answer as they wait for class to start. These questions may concern future texts or quizzes. A teacher's PowerPoint presentation is a way to share with students different content of teaching or teaching from the textbook. And when a PowerPoint is put together properly, it can be an effective way to reinforce certain content for students so they can remember it more easily. Additionally, teachers can print and distribute the PowerPoint presentation or post it online for students to return to and access as reference material. However, if not put together properly, a PowerPoint presentation can become distracting and boring for students. So how should teachers go about creating an effective PowerPoint presentation? For starters, it should be simple. But just because it's simple doesn't mean it can't be fun too. Here are five tips teachers can use to spice up their PowerPoint presentations and make them an effective teaching tool. A PowerPoint presentation should be simple, direct, and distraction-free. It should also focus on keywords and a take-home message. For example, always be sure to include a summary slide of what the presentation aims to achieve, as well as a table of contents for the various topics covered in the program.10 The summary slide serves as the main topic and what students need to learn after watching the presentation. At the end of the PowerPoint presentation, teachers should then insert another recap slide that would go over everything just covered and re-emphasize the main point. Bottom Line: Keep PowerPoint presentations simple, but make sure they have a purpose and make sure the purpose is clear. We've already touched on the fact that a good PowerPoint presentation should always focus on what it's supposed to accomplish and should always include a take-home message. Teachers can reinforce this takeaway message with photos, graphics, symbols, and other images. Sometimes it's even better to have more pictures than text in a PowerPoint presentation. Images work to reinforce a main point or message. Teachers usually share this content with their class so they can get images directly from the web. However, copyright law needs to be considered for teachers giving more public and widespread presentations. Just as images can help reinforce a main point or support content, videos can too. And studies show that students enjoy watching videos and retaining information well, especially when the video is engaging, interesting, and informative. Teachers can embed videos directly from YouTube or from their desktop to complement a PowerPoint presentation. Nothing distracts a class more than a poorly prepared PowerPoint presentation. Teachers should therefore always make sure to do a quick rehearsal before presenting it to the class. When testing, make sure all images load on the slides, videos load properly, and sound works as well. It's also important for teachers to make sure there is a way to plug in their computer or upload something that saves the PowerPoint presentation on a larger TV or projector screen, so the whole class isn't sitting in front of the screen. a computer. to see it. Teachers must also ensure that any text is clearly legible and that the color scheme is correct. A PowerPoint presentation can be an innovative way to teach. Overall, it's a more interesting and engaging way for students to learn than the typical lecture. Teachers should embrace and enjoy this way of teaching. Add a few jokes, maybe a few funny pictures, and be sure to get creative with presentations. The more fun teachers have creating a presentation, the more fun students will have with it. And as we noted earlier, the more students enjoy a lecture, presentation, or activity, the more likely they are to remember the information. Positive features of power point presentation • PowerPoint saves time and effort – once a presentation is created, it can be easily updated or modified for other courses. • PowerPoint is portable and easily shared with students and colleagues. • PowerPoint supports multimedia such as video, audio and images As with any technology, the use of PowerPoint determines its educational effectiveness. By strategically using the points outlined above, PowerPoint can be used to enhance teaching and engage students. Download 96.65 Kb. Do'stlaringiz bilan baham: |
