Needs Analysis report
Conclusion
This study has been very crucial for setting future targets. As noted by Hutchinson & Waters (1987) there is a special tool to analyze learner’s needs. This framework helps to identify their needs, wants what they are learning how they would like to learn a language or existing materials and other sources to teach them. In this study, a process similar to this has been completed where we have analyzed our learners (logistics students) needs, wants and lacks from learning English. According to Hyland (2006, as cited in Flowerdew, 2013) conducting needs analysis consists of three stages: triangulation, prolonged engagement and participant verification. In this study, we employed the first triangulation method as we collected data through two instruments: diagnostic test and needs analysis questionnaire. In this study, we have been primarily concerned with finding the most effective solution to the problem of teaching ESP students in logistics field. As mentioned above deriving from our learners’ needs we can say that they need English mainly to explain routines, giving presentations and listening detailed information. We have tried to reveal this truth with the help of needs analysis questionnaire which will definitely be helpful for planning lessons more effectively. Finally, the findings of the study show that target population of the study needs English for many reasons which can be fulfilled with much exposure to target language. All in all, their main needs are to learn language more communicative purposes, lacks are unable to perform excellently in writing and wants are to study abroad and receiving more speaking/listening activities.
