Social Responsibility
“Man in the Mirror” by Michael Jackson
I’m gonna make a change, for once in my life
It’s gonna feel real good, gonna make a difference,
gonna make it right...
As I turn up the collar on my favorite winter coat
This wind is blowin’ my mind

see kids on the street with not enough to eat.
Who am I, to be blind, pretending not to see their
needs?
A summer’s disregard, a broken bottle top, and a
one man’s soul
They follow each other on the wind, ya know?
‘Cause they got nowhere to go
That’s why I want you to know
I’m starting with the man in the mirror, I’m asking
him to change his ways.
And no message could have been any clearer.
If you wanna make the world a better place, take a
look at yourself, and then
make a change. I’ve been a victim of a selfish kind
of love, it’s time that I realize.
That there are some with no home, not a nickel to
loan.
Could it be really me, pretending that they’re not
alone?
A willow deeply scarred, somebody’s broken
heart, and a washed-out dream.
They follow the pattern of the wind you see, cause
they got no place to be.
That’s why I’m starting with me.
I’m starting with the man in the mirror, I’m asking
him to change his ways.
And no message could have been any clearer.
If you wanna make the world a better place, take a
look at yourself, and then
make a change.
I’m starting with the man in the mirror, I’m asking
him to change his ways.
No message could have been any clearer.
If you wanna make the world a better place, take a
look at yourself and make
that change.
You gotta get it right, while you got the time, cause
when you close your heart,
you can’t close your ... your mind.
REVIEW 2
Rustam : Hi, I’m Rustam Hamroev, and you’:
listening to Learning English with Navruz rad
broadcast. Well things like texting, Twitter and tl
24 hour news cycle continually bombard us wii
information in our fast-paced world. But do yc
sometimes wonder if people are also talking faster tha
they used to? Well, if that thought has crossed yoi
mind, you’re absolutely right. We are speaking fasti
than we did a decade ago. So how does crammir
more words into every minute affect our ability 1
understand what we’re saying to each other? We
that’s one of the questions, Navruz radio broadca;
reporter Dilfuza Mamatkulova put to communicatior
expert Jaloldin Zuhriddinov in this interview.
Dilfuza: Jaloldin Zuhriddinov is a Professor (
Communication Sciences and Disorders at Tashkei
State University. People seek his help to talk slowt
and with greater clarity. To get back to where we use
to be.
Jaloldin Zuhriddinov : A decade ago I measure
the speed of speech of teachers, family members an
those out in society at a rate of about 145 words pe
minute. That is certainly not what we’re finding toda;
People are speaking at a rate of typically of aroun
160 to 180 words per minute.
Dilfuza: Jaloldin Zuhriddinov says the centre
nervous system is best able to comprehend speec
at around 124 to 130 words per minute. That’s aboi
how fast he just spoke. When we talk slowly, th
central nervous system has the time to fill in the gap
of speech with elongated vowels and consonants
Teachers or parents who think that kids don’t hea
them, (they) actually might not understand them. An<
it’s not just kids. The ever growing number of ne\
immigrants, and especially seniors, can have a han
time with fast talkers. Jaloldin Zuhriddinov says w
all need to advocate for slower speech.
Jaloldin Zuhriddinov: When I work with televisioi
news broadcasters whose time speaking at 200 word
per minute, and people call in and complain that the]
cannot understand, then it would seem as thougl
people would begin to take the hint that they need t(
slow down.
Dilfuza: There’s a few ways to do that. Lool
people in the eye to get constant feedback and paust
between phrases. And time yourself. Mark 130 word;

on a page and clock how fast you read it. If you’re done
in less than a minute, try slowing down a little and
see what it feels like. Then again, I’ve been speaking
at around 170 words per minute and hopefully you’ve
understood me.
