There are four main kinds of speech delivery: impromptu, extemporaneous, manuscript, and memorized. Impromptu speaking involves delivering a message on the spur of the moment, as when someone is asked to “say a few words.” Extemporaneous speaking consists of delivering a speech in a conversational fashion using notes. Speaking style is a set of properties by which you can link speech to a certain communicative situation. • This situation is multi-dimensional: - Content (news, poem, dialogue, etc.) - Speaker (habits, personality, etc.) - Situation (distance, noise, room size, etc.) It allows us to form connections, influence decisions, and motivate change. Without communication skills, the ability to progress in the working world and in life, itself, would be nearly impossible. Public speaking is one of the most important and most dreaded forms of communication. The three rules are know your audience, know your material, and know your passion.
