Vocabulary pride – faxr. inhabitant – doimiy istiqomat qiluvchi. inhabitant of Tashkent – toshkentliklar. to change – 1) bir avtobusdan (trolleybus, tramvay, poyezd va b.) boshqasiga chiqmoq; 2) pulni maydalamoq. change – 1) avtobus, tramvay kabilarni o‘zgartirish; 2) mayda pul. traffic – yo‘l harakati. heavy traffic – serqatnov va katta tezlikdagi yo‘l harakati. traffic lights – svetofor. to show red (green, yellow) – qizil (yashil, sariq) chiroq yonmoq. to be held up by the red light – qizil chiroqda to‘xtamoq. to hold on to smth. – biror narsani ushlab turmoq. street crossing – chorraha. traffic jam – mashinalar yoki piyodalarning tiqilib qolishi. request stop – talab bo‘yicha to‘xtash. Walk – yuring. Don’t walk – to‘xtang. vacant seat – bo‘sh joy (o‘rindiq). - 148 - occupied seat – band joy (o‘rindiq). free seat – bepul joy (o‘rindiq). to be up and about – tinimsiz harakatda bo‘lmoq. to take the 9 – 9-avtobusga (trolleybus, tramvay va b.) chiqmoq. DIALOGUE Andrew and Bob are in Tashkent. They meet at a tram stop. Andrew: Hello, Bob. You are up and about rather early this morning. - 149 - Bob: Oh, hello Andrew. Yes, I want to do some shopping before going to the institute. What tram are you waiting for? - I can take either the 7 or the 16. In a few minutes a tram rolls up to the stop. - It is overcrowded; shall we wait for the next one? - Let’s walk up to the Metro station tram stop. It will only take a few minutes and the trams are usually empty there. - Yes, I always walk to the Metro. Not only is it easier to get on the tram there, but connections are much better. They walk all the way to the Metro station and get on the 39. They find vacant seats and sit down. The conductor comes up to them and says, “Fares, please.” Andrew and Bob reach into their pockets for change at the same time. - Don’t bother, Andrew. I’ll pay your fare. Here you are, conductor. Two. - By the way, conductor. Does this tram take me to Hadra Square? C.: No, it doesn’t. You’ll have to change to the trolley-bus next stop. Route No. 20 takes you right there. It will be a ten minute ride all in all. - How far are you going B.? - I’ll go as far as Kukcha Market and change to a bus there. As the tram begins slowing down A. gets up and says good-bye to B.
