Profilers , according to the type of signal converter, are divided into piezoelectric, electronic, induction and inductive. The most common devices using inductive transducers.
As an example of a profilometer, we can cite the devices of the SEITRONIK-PSh8 models (models SEITRONIK-PSh8-1 , SEITRONIK-PSh8-2 , SEITRONIK-PSh8-3 and SEITRONIK-PSh8-4 ) as well as the good old " model 130 profiler ".
In addition to profilers, there are also profilers that allow not only to measure, but also to record the parameters of a rough profile on a pre-selected scale.
The study of the superficial probe method is carried out in several stages: for example, first the profile of the object under study is “felt” several times, and only then, based on a series of measurements, the average value of the parameter is calculated, which is characterized as a quantitative expression of the roughness relative to the length of the section.

2) The optical method is a non-contact method for measuring roughness, which consists of a whole group of methods. The most common of them are:
- light glow method and shadow method,
- microinterference method,
- raster method.
So, the raster method involves the following sequence of actions: a glass plate is placed on the surface under study, with a raster grid applied to it (ie, a system of equidistant parallel lines), with a small step. Then, light rays are applied to the plate at an angle. When light rays fall obliquely in places of microscopic irregularities, the strokes of the reflected raster grid are superimposed on the strokes of the actually drawn grid, resulting in moiré fringes, which indicate the presence of protrusions or depressions on the surface of the object under study. Using a scanning microscope and determine the parameters of irregularities. The exact methodology for determining the parameters can be found in the corresponding GOST. It should be noted that the raster method is applicable for examining surfaces on which traces of irregularities are predominantly of the same direction (for example, scratches in the cylinders of internal combustion engines).
