Methodology
Designing communicative tasks on Phonology
Tools: cue-cards, newspaper or magazines, desk, CD player or speakers.
Participants: whole class
Level: Pre-intermediate
Pre- activity:
“Find your group”
Before starting the new topic, teacher is required to divide the class into two groups.
For this, she contributes cue-cards and in the cue- cards there should be written some words related to two syllable and one syllable groups.
After taking the cue-cards students need to listen the pronunciation of the words through CD player and analyze the word’s type according to its phonetic future.
Students, whose cue-card belongs to one syllable type need to join the first group, and two syllables will be the second group.
While- activity:
“Reading activity”
For this activity teacher needs to bring a newspaper or magazine.
Students choose one of the articles or a short text that is written in the newspaper and they read it with their group.
The first group should find the words related to one syllable type and second group the second syllable type.
All found word should be written on the table.

Post- activity:
“Dialogue”
In the end of the lesson teacher asks students to make a short dialogue with their pairs by utilizing one and two syllable type words.
The first group’s students should use only one syllable type words and the second group two syllable type words that they found in the previous task through the text.
These activities are effective, because during the lesson students will be able to enrich their knowledge on Phonetics and syllables through doing speaking, listening, reading activities as well as activities include authentic materials.
