technique, tone, content, or length, according to Anderson. As I mentioned before children literature in
America started with spoken stories and song before ABC books and hornbooks. According to genres
they are included in Alphabet, Counting books. Although we can classify and study literature according
to genres, not all books t into one and only one category. Some books t well in two categories, and
some books t into none. For example, Mary’s grammar can be fallen under both traditional literature
and informational books. It contains instructions of grammar and stories, legends to teach rules. Token
for Children, Life of George Washington can be great examples of biography books that narrate lives of
real people and give readers the opportunity to learn more about the people who inspire them most.
When it comes to next centuries writers started to delight children with ction, fantasy books like Alice’s
Adventures in Wonderland and Water Babies. This change in the genres of books was the result of Civil
War in America, writers were fascinated with future, future illustration. As time goes by due to technical
improvement in printing, picture books developed that was an improvement in children’s literature and
education. 
There are big name authors who contributed signi cantly to the progress of children literature in
America. They created their masterpieces in different time periods. Mark Twain or Louisa May Alcott
were equally successful in popularizing ction for children in 19th century. After a century later,
Dr.Seuss, Harper Lee, F.Scott Fitzgerarld came to stage.
In conclusion, American children’s literature has long history, although at the beginning it was in uenced
by European models, it ourished for the next centuries with different genres and categories.
