Eligibility Requirements
Native country
You must be born in a country with a low immigration rate to the U.S.
Education or work experience
You need to have a high school degree or two years of work experience in the last five years in an eligible field.
No criminal record
You should have a clean police record. You won't be eligible if you've been convicted of a crime with a prison sentence of more than one year.

You need a valid passport to prove identity and nationality.

Provide proof of education by submitting a high school diploma or equivalent certificate.

Completing the Online Entry Form

Access the DV Lottery page on the official website.

Fill out the entry form, providing personal information and a recent photograph.

Submit the form.
Selection Process

Random selection
Entries from eligible countries are assigned a random number and selected if they're among the top 55,000 with no duplicate country limitation.

Notification and interviews
Selected applicants are notified by mail and given instructions for their interview. They must complete several forms and undergo fingerprinting and a medical exam.

Visa issuance
Visas are issued to the selected applicants who pass the interview and background checks. The visa allows the applicant to enter the U.S. but doesn't guarantee entry.
Next Steps After Selection
Prepare for departure
Selected applicants have six months to prepare for their departure. This may include securing housing, selling property, or saying goodbye to friends and family.
Travel arrangements
The selected applicant must secure travel arrangements for themselves and any accompanying family members, if applicable.
The journey
The applicant arrives in the U.S. and goes through customs and immigration. The green card is mailed to the applicant's U.S. address.
