Princess Diana

• Diana Frances Spencer was born on July 2, 1961 in Norfolk, England

• In 1975, her father became the eighth Earl Spencer making Diana a lady; Lady Diana Frances Spencer

• Diana was considered an academically below-average student

Princess Diana

• Diana was a talented singer, excelled in sports, and wanted to be a ballerina.

• Her dream was to be a ballerina, but she was too tall (5’10”)

Marriage

• Engagement with Prince Charles became official on February 24, 1981.

• They were married at St. Paul’s Cathedral on July 29, 1981

Marriage

• Their marriage fell apart a few years later

• Separated on December 9, 1992

• Divorce was finalized on August 28, 1996

• After the divorce, according to the rules, she no longer had the title of Her Royal Highness

• In April 1987, Princess Diana became the first “high profile” celebrity to touch a person infected with HIV

• Had a big influence of the signing by the gov. of the UK and other nations of the Ottawa Treaty in December 1997

• This created an international ban on the use of anti-personal landmines

Death

• Princess Diana died on August 31, 1997

• She died in a car accident in the Pont de l’Alma road tunnel in Paris, France

• Her companion Dodi Fayed and the driver of the car, Henri Paul also died

• Born at St. Mary’s Hospital in London, England on June 21, 1982

• First child of Prince Charles and Diana, Princess of Wales

• Prince William was 15 years old when his mother Diana Princess of Wales was killed in a car crash on August 31, 1997

• Both Prince William and his brother Prince Harry walked behind their mother’s cortege at her funeral

• After passing entrance exams, he was admitted to Eton College

• There, he studied Geography, biology, and art history at Advanced level.

• William was first Familiarized with HIV/AIDS in mid 1990’s thanks to his mother Diana

• In January 2005, Prince William and brother volunteered at a British Red Cross
