ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ 1 The samples of rice husk and straw, locality and year of sampling, and rice strain were as follows: RH-1, Chernigov- ka, Primorskii Krai, 1995, Dal’nevostochnyi strain; RH-2, Krasnodar, 1999; RH-3 !RH-6, Krasnodar, 2002, Kuban’-3, Izumrud, Rapan, and Regul strains, respectively; RH-7, Kiri- Kili, Astrakhan oblast, 1995; RH-8, Kiliya, Odessa oblast, Ukraine, 1993; RH-9, Harbin, China, 2000; RH-10, Sheng- yang, China, 2000; RH-11 Dunin, China, 2001; RH-12, South Vietnam, 2001; RH-13 !RH-15, Novorossiisk, 2002, Slavyan- skii, Poltavskii, and Angelinskii KKhP strains, respectively; RH-16, Novoshakhtinsk, Rostov oblast, 2002; RH-17, Timi- ryazevskii, Primorskii krai, 2000; Khankaiskii 429 strain; RH-18, Seoul, South Korea, 2001; RH-19, Taiwan, China, 2003; RS-1 !RS-4, Timiryazevskii, Primorskii Krai, 2001, Darii-8, Dal’nevostochnyi, Khankaiskii 429, and Khankaiskii 52 strains, respectively; RS-5, the same locality, 2002, Darii- 122 strain (numbering of the samples of raw materials from rice production wastes is given according to the collection of the Institute of Chemistry, Far-Eastern Division, Russian Academy of Sciences). The proportion of the 0.25 30.05-mm fraction varied between different batches of raw materials. Prelimi- nary experiments showed that silica with the highest purity, containing more than 99% SiO 2 , is recovered from the husk with a particle size of no less than 0.5 mm (Table 1). In this study, we examined husk samples with a particle size of 0.5 mm and samples of straw cut to 10-mm fragments. The samples were washed with water and dried in air to constant weight. Weighed portions of raw materials were 60 3100 g in laboratory experiments and 5 39 kg in a pilot instal- lation. To recover SiO 2 , the RH and RS samples were processed according to various schemes listed in Table 2 and used in [12, 15 318]. Water-soluble sub- stances of RH and RS were extracted with hot water or HCl (analytically pure grade) solution. Thermolysis of the raw materials was carried out at 750 oC with deficiency of air or in a helium flow. Oxidative burn- ing was carried out in two stages. First, a weighed portion of a raw material was ashed in a quartz cup on a hot plate to remove volatiles at T < 500 oC, then the residue was additionally burnt in a laboratory muffle in air at 750 + 50oC to constant weight and analyzed by chemical, spectral (PGS-2 spectrome- ter), flame atomic absorption (AA-780 device, Nippon Jharrell Ash, Japan), IR spectroscopic (Specord spec- trophotometer, 400 3 4000 cm !1 ), X-ray diffraction RUSSIAN JOURNAL OF APPLIED CHEMISTRY Vol. 78 No. 2 2005 RECOVERY CONDITIONS AND CHARACTERISTICS OF AMORPHOUS SILICON DIOXIDE 321 Download 50.51 Kb.
