he anniversary of the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is one of the most important Islamic celebrations in Egypt and the Arab and Islamic nations at large. Egyptians celebrate the birth of Prophet Muhammad (Mawled) on the 12th of the Hegira month of Rabee'a al Awwal. This occasion is of an utmost vitality and joy at all popular levels.Egyptians have been famous for their keenness on celebrating religious events. Celebrations of Prophet Muhammad's birthday (Mawled) took place in Egypt with the entry of the Fatimids rulers to Egypt. The first celebration has been held in the reign of the Fatimid Caliph Al Mu'ezz ledeen Allah in 973 AH.
Girl 2: very informative!!! why in your hands some sugar lolipops and peanuts coated with sugar ?
Girl 3 : it a symbol of this festival.  One of the stories related to the candies associated with the Mawled, is the Doll (in Arabic : Arouset Al Mawlid). It is said that at the time of the ruling of Al Hakem Bi Amr Allah-who was known for his odd legislations- he prohibited the weddings all year long and allowed them only to be held on the day of Prophet Mohamed’s birthday. This is why on the days before the Mawlid, the candies and sweets were to be prepared for the weddings at the Mawlid celebrations. One basic item of these sweets was the dolls; the dolls were made of sugar that to be colored and decorated; since that time those dolls were part of the traditions in Egypt. Using statues was related to the Egyptian celebrations since the ancient Egyptians era. Statues in the form of animals, birds, dolls..etc.
