INTRODUCTION
Grimm's Fairy Tales is a collection of folk tales that has captured the imagination of readers for over two centuries. The collection, originally published in 1812 by the Brothers Grimm, Jacob and Wilhelm, has since become a cultural phenomenon, inspiring countless adaptations, retellings, and interpretations. One of the most popular tales from the collection is "Cinderella," which has been adapted into numerous films, books, and plays.
The Brothers Grimm were German scholars and folklorists who collected and published traditional stories from various regions of Germany. Their goal was to preserve the oral tradition of folklore and make it accessible to a wider audience. The tales they collected were often dark and violent, reflecting the harsh realities of life in rural Germany.
Despite their grim nature, the tales have endured because they speak to universal themes and emotions. They explore the human condition, with its joys and sorrows, hopes and fears. They offer insights into human psychology, morality, and social norms. And they provide a window into the rich cultural heritage of Germany and Europe.
In this coursework, we will examine the collection of Grimm's Fairy Tales, with a particular focus on "Cinderella." We will analyze the themes and motifs that run throughout the tales, explore their cultural impact, and compare them to other fairy tale collections. By doing so, we hope to gain a deeper understanding of why these tales continue to captivate readers today.
