4. Queue size assessment using the example of a crossing in Orel
The crossroads of Moskovskaya street in the city of Orel (from the turn to the shopping center Europe) to the
intersection with Gertsena street was selected as the analyzed section of the road network of the city of Orel. The
analyzed section of the road network of the city of Orel is shown in Fig. 4.
Fig. 4. Analyzed section of the road network of the city of Orel.
Statistical observations on working days were analyzed within a period from 7 a.m. till 10 p.m. The analyzed data
were recorded every hour. The averaged data obtained from the measurements are given in Table 2.

Since at the first stage the choice of the factors affecting the feature was of a random nature determined by
theoretical and practical considerations, it is necessary to calculate a degree of dependence for each selected factor
on the resultant feature. For this purpose, it is proposed to use methods of correlation and component analysis.
The first stage is the construction of a scattering diagram, which allows tracing the relationship between the
analyzed values. In case of available emission data or features, the scatter diagram analysis allows them to be
detected.
Fig. 5. Scattering diagram.
The resulting correlation coefficient (R
2
= 0.7) indicates a strong effect of this factor on the feature.
The variables of the i-th factor and the free term of the regression equation resulting from the calculations are
given below in (Fig. 6).
Fig. 6. The result of calculating the variables of the i-th factor and the free term of the regression equation.
The regression equation significance as a whole is checked using the F-test (a value below 0.05). This procedure
is reduced to checking the statistical significance for coefficient of determination R².

The regression equation takes the form:
У = 9.31650862223497 х Х2 – 17.3614765950836 х Х1 + 952.516298892195
(3)
where Y is a crossing queue size
X1 – traffic flow speed, km/h;
X2 – time of day.
Check of the model used for the possibility of its practical application by the criterion of accuracy, reliability and
adequacy has shown the possibility of its further use in calculations.
